Watch as Corrie actor Colson Smith spends the night at 30 East Drive - one of Britain's most haunted houses

Could one of Yorkshire’s most notorious haunted houses really be home to something paranormal?

That’s the question Coronation Street actor and BBC Yorkshire presenter Colson Smith sets out to answer after spending the night inside the infamous 30 East Drive in Pontefract – alongside cameraman Cam.

The house has become one of Britain’s best-known locations for paranormal claims, with stories surrounding the property stretching back to the 1960s.

For sceptics, there are rational explanations for the strange events said to have taken place there. But for those who believe, the stories surrounding the house point to something far more disturbing.

Now Colson, who grew up just down the road in Castleford, has gone inside to see what happens for himself.

“Like many people I remember hearing the tales of the Pritchard family - Jean, Joe and their teenage children, Philip and Diane,” he said.

“Some pretty terrible things allegedly happened to them caused by something that they can’t explain.

“The family called this thing ‘Fred’, the papers named this thing Mr Nobody…”

The stories surrounding 30 East Drive have helped turn the unassuming Pontefract property into a magnet for paranormal investigators and ghost hunters.

Among the most talked-about claims are unexplained noises, objects allegedly moving by themselves and other strange incidents attributed to an entity known by the Pritchard family as ‘Fred’.

But how much of the legend is fact, and how much has grown through decades of retelling?

Colson is joined by Bil Bungay, the owner of the house, who reveals an intriguing detail of his own - despite owning the property, he has never stayed there overnight himself.

He also meets Dr Diane Rodgers, a researcher specialising in folklore and the paranormal, to explore the history behind the stories and examine why places such as 30 East Drive continue to fascinate the public.

With the cameras rolling, Colson and Cam settle in for the night.

There are no easy answers – and no guarantee that anything unexplained will happen.

But with a house carrying decades of spooky stories, a history steeped in local folklore and two people prepared to spend the night inside, there is certainly plenty to investigate.

So, is 30 East Drive genuinely haunted? Or can everything that has happened there be explained by science, psychology and the power of a good ghost story?
