Step Into a Jurassic Adventure at the National Coal Mining Museum this weekend

The National Coal Mining Museum is inviting visitors of all ages to experience a prehistoric adventure like no other at their Dino Discovery Day this Sunday, September 13.

It promises to be a jam-packed day with dinosaur-themed fun, plus plenty of family-friendly entertainment and performances.

There will be a unique chance to explore how the colossal creatures that once thundered the prehistoric forests helped shape the coal seams hidden deep underground.

Throughout the day, visitors will meet dinosaurs big and small, enjoy the spectacular Rock ‘n’ Coal Show with fantastic free performances, plus get hands-on with dinosaur-themed arts and crafts, dino walk abouts, trails and more.

Dino-enthusiasts can also meet friendly rangers who will share fascinating facts about our gigantic prehistoric friends through up-close dinosaur encounters with a Megalosaurus and baby dinosaurs.

They will also have the opportunity to purchase lots of exciting dinosaur goodies from the museum’s shop and take a look around the dino themed stalls.

Whether you're a budding palaeontologist or just dino-curious, this is a day out not to be missed! Dinosaur Discovery Day is just £15 per car, and this includes access to the Dino Discovery Day activities, live shows, walkabouts and all the usual Museum fun on offer.

Lynn Dunning, CEO of the National Coal Mining Museum, said: “The links between coal and dinosaurs are really interesting, especially when it comes to fossils, how they were created and their links to the coal seams beneath our feet.

"It really is an amazing day out for all the family and a wonderful opportunity to find out more about fossils, geology and the important role coal has played in our world.”
