Wakefield Italian restaurant Capri could face booze ban after police request

An Italian restaurant could be banned from selling alcohol after police raised concerns about activity at the premises.

Capri, on Leeds Road in Wakefield, may have to fight to keep its alcohol licence at a hearing later this year, after officers asked for it to be reviewed.

The diner opened next to the Newton Hill roundabout in 2016.

Members of the public have until July 9 to comment on the review. A decision is then likely to be made by a panel of councillors.

Any premises holding an alcohol licence has to adhere to strict rules. Breaching these can result in the licence being removed.

Alongside the police's application, officers said the grounds of the review were the "prevention of crime and disorder, the prevention of public nuisance and the protection of children from harm."

Capri was contacted for comment, but has not yet responded.
