Traffic free cycling as Wakefield gets moving
More than 4,000 people joined in the free Get Wakefield Moving event.
The 1.3km bike ride aimed to get people active by giving them the chance to ride their bike safely in a traffic-free zone. Coun Les Shaw, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “This was a great event which really got people energetic, active, and having fun at the same time.

“It is important to remind everyone to exercise and get fit and we are really trying to get people to move more every day, get physically active and to improve their health.”
Thousands of people took part in a variety of activities including bike sculpture workshops run by Faceless, a music stage and chance to meet cycling groups from the Change 4 life team.
Steve Peters, British Cycling’s recreation manager for Yorkshire, said: “This was a hugely popular event and we are pleased to have been part of such a fantastic day in the Wakefield district.”
