Castleford suffer heavy defeat – but seconds celebrate title success

Castleford CC’s disappointing second half of the season continued as they were thrashed by 178 runs by Woodhouse Grange in the Yorkshire Premier League North.

A campaign that started so promisingly and saw the team top of the table for a fair spell has come off the rails in the last couple of months and they were nowhere near victory in their latest game.

The heavy defeat saw them collect no points and saw them drop down to fourth place with one game remaining.

After electing to field they were unable to prevent Woodhouse Grange from posting a good 245-4 total with Toby Findlay (86) top scoring and Ed Morrison (2-46) being the pick of the Cas bowlers.

Castleford were then quickly reduced to 5-2 in their reply and although there was a partial recovery to 60-4 with Hayden Walsh hitting 28, the last six wickets tumbled for only seven runs as they were all out for just 67. Ryan Thompson did most of the damage with 6-14.

Ebor Division Two champions Castleford seconds showed no signs of letting up as they defeated Pocklington by seven wickets.

After a 52-run opening stand it became a struggle for Pocklington as they could only add a further 80 runs against an attack well led by Thomas Wood (3-13) and Jack Brewitt (3-18).

Castleford comfortably chased the runs down as opener Simon Parker led them home with an unbeaten 55 and Chris Colley hit 28 not out.
