Clark hits half century as Castleford maintain title challenge

Castleford CC stayed within two points of leaders Clifton Alliance with a 29-run success at home to Beverley Town in the Yorkshire Premier League North.

The hard earned victory was not without its hiccups along the way, but Castleford did make a positive start after they had elected to bat first.

Although opener Luke Edwards fell cheaply a 96-run stand for the second wicket between Brayden Clark (53) and Owen Smith (40) gave the team a solid base to build on.

They struggled to do that with a middle order collapse leaving them on 146-6, but an unbeaten 36 from David Wainwright saw them able to reach 199-9 by the end of their 50 overs.

Beverley batsmen also found it tricky as they lost wickets following their solid start in reaching 88-1.

Opener Jacob Cumming was their mainstay with 74, but Cas chipped away at the other end and the visitors were eventually all out for 170 in the 45th over with Hayden Walsh taking 4-35 and Wainwright 3-51.

Top of the table Castleford seconds maintained their unbeaten record in the YPLN Division Two Ebor with a nine-wicket cruise against Hillam & Monk Fryston.

Andrew Lund (64), Simon Parker (55no) and Tom Wragg (34no) brought them home inside 33 overs after they had restricted their opponents to 170.

Chris Colley (6-34) did most of the damage in Hillam’s innings.
