Taylor leads way with bat and ball as Wakefield Thornes defeat YSPL champions

It may have come too late for this year, but Wakefield Thornes rediscovered their best form as they stunned already confirmed Yorkshire Southern Premier Cricket League champions Sheffield Collegiate.

The Sheffied side had only previously lost once all season as they have romped away with the title, but they came unstuck at seventh-placed Wakefield.

Their batting was made to look extremely ordinary as they were skittled out for just 72 with only two batsmen able to reach double figures to lose by 72 runs.

Opening bowler Matty Taylor did the early damage and came back later to wrap up the innings, taking 5-18 from 8.4 overs, while Vinnie Ogden claimed 3-14 and Sam Wisniewski 2-19.

They must now win their last match of the season to have a chance of staying up after being unable to chase down Woolley’s 220-9 score.

Aneesh Parnandi, with 4-56, had been the pick of the Thornes bowlers.
