Wakefield Thornes fail in run chase as up and down season continues

Wakefield Thornes’ inconsistent season continued when they were unable to chase down Doncaster Town’s 194 total in their latest Yorkshire Southern Premier League match.

A decent job in the field had kept Town to a manageable score as opening bowler Matthew Taylor took 3-46 and support followed on from Sam Wisniewski (3-56) and Luke Baddeley (3-40).

This score would have been considerably less but for a superb 103 from opener Harsha Rajapaksha who scored more than half his side’s runs and hit 11 fours and a six.

Thornes’ reply saw wickets go down at regular intervals and they were all out for a hugely disappointing 130 as they fell 58 runs short when given a revised target of 189 from 46 overs after a shower.

Opener Kieran Donnachie top scored with 29, but the defeat saw the Wakefield side drop down a place to eighth.

Wakefield Thornes’ seconds went down by seven wickets to Hatfield Town in the YSPL Division Two.

Defeat was tough on opener Harley Cushan who hit 109, including 19 boundaries, in Thornes’ 232-7 total. George Harrison also contributed 37 and Kamran Hussain 34.
