Former Football League player and manager joins Wayne Benn’s Ossett United staff
Smith has joined Wayne Benn’s backroom staff and will add valuable experience to the ranks after making 510 league appearances spread over a 17-year playing career for teams including Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, Chesterfield and Huddersfield.
After a solid playing career Smith has continued to work in the game holding positions such as international youth director at Sheffield United youth team coach at Chesterfield, U18 academy coach at Sheffield Wednesday and even one-time caretaker manager at Hillsborough after the departure of Chris Turner.

Hide AdCurrently he holds the position of loans manager at Sheffield United.
“Bringing in someone like Mark will set the tone from the very beginning of our new campaign,” said United manager Wayne Benn.
“The returning lads will be joining up with some new faces and Mark will be working to make sure a solid team bond is forged immediately.
“He has some great ideas and his CV speaks for itself. Very exciting to get to work.”
