Leeds United set for Newcastle test in Capital One Cup
Brian McDermott’s side have been drawn away to the Premiership team with the third round tie set to take place in the week starting September 23.
It will be the Whites’ first trip to Newcastle for a competitive game since January, 2004.
Leeds boss McDermott, meanwhile, was delighted with his side’s display in their 3-1 win over Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium.
He said: “Whether it is a cup game or a league game you want to try and win the game and you want to try and put on a performance.
“You are always mindful of the fact that the amount of support that has travelled and we don’t want to let those supporters down. And I don’t think that we did.
“I thought that we saw the game out really well. At 3-1 we kept the ball really well and I thought we passed the ball well.
“Doncaster started the game quite brightly but we got ourselves back into the game. It was a good goal to start with and the second goal was fabulous.
“I was delighted for Matt Smith. I was delighted for Scott Wootton and Alex Mowatt who were making their debuts, it was a good night for Leeds United.
“Some of the football we played I thought was excellent. When it was 1-1 I was quite comfortable.
“They got the goal, which obviously put us under pressure but you can’t let a knock back like that effect you. You’ve got to keep playing your football.”
