News of the offer emerged at the press conference to unveil new head coach Uwe Rosler when executive director Adam Pearson aimed to clarify Redfearn’s position by saying that the clause on the 49-year-old continuing as head coach was not being activated.

Pearson said that the club was currently awaiting Redfearn’s answer to the offer of the academy job and he could say that the offer was a “genuine and credible” one as it was he who made it.

On whether Redfearn will stay, he said: “I couldn’t honestly answer that. The role has been offered to him and I am sure Neil will come back to me as soon as he has had time to consider it.”

New head coach Rosler, meanwhile, has been given the chance to bring in an assistant-manager and first-team coach and these appointments will be made alongside the taking on of a new head of recruitment and a club secretary.
