Cinderella takes flight

THE UK’s most popular choreographer returns to Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre later this month with his new production of Cinderella, created to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Blitz.

Cinderella is a thrilling and evocative journey through London during the Second World War, with Matthew Bourne’s interpretation of Prokofiev’s haunting score having at its heart a true wartime romance.

A chance meeting results in a magical night for Cinderella and her dashing young RAF pilot, together just long enough to fall in love before being parted by the horrors of the Blitz.

First seen in the West End in 1997, but now completely revised, this brand new production features a specially commissioned new recording of the score, with New Adventures creating a cinematic experience, taking the audience to the heart of Prokofiev’s magnificent music and the sounds of war-torn London.

Matthew Bourne’s previous credits include his all-male Swan Lake and Nutcracker!

Cinderella is at the Lyceum on May 24-28, tickets cost £20-£34, available from www.sheffieldtheatres.co.uk or the box office on 0114 249 6000.
