Robotics enthusiast, 21, starts engineering career at Wakefield manufacturer
A 21-year-old engineer is turning his passion for machines and robotics into a career after joining Wakefield-based manufacturer Rhodes Interform.
Archie Murdoch-Dawson has been appointed as a Mechanical Fitter at the company, part of Group Rhodes, following his engineering studies at Leeds City College and two years of industry experience.
He said: “I have been interested in machines and robotics from an early age and dreamed of a career in engineering one day, where I could learn new skills and put them into practice.
“I am really enjoying my role as a mechanical fitter. Engineering is a great industry to work in and I’m proud to be part of the team at Group Rhodes.”

Archie studied for a BTEC Level 3 extended diploma in Engineering at Leeds City College before securing his first industry placement at a company near Group Rhodes.
During his two years there, he gained practical experience in design, machining and manufacturing processes, helping him develop the skills needed to progress into a full-time engineering role.
His new position involves mechanical fitting and assembly work, as well as liaising with project and purchasing teams to monitor progress and ensure work meets customer requirements.
Mark Ridgway, chief executive of Group Rhodes, said investing in the next generation of engineers was increasingly important.
He said: “Our sector is facing a significant and growing skills shortage, making it more important than ever that we invest in the next generation and provide young people with clear pathways into rewarding careers.
“We are very pleased to have Archie on board and look forward to supporting his development and seeing his career progress with Group Rhodes.”
