Wakefield pub reopens after major makeover – with brand-new live music venue

A popular Wakefield city centre pub is reopening its doors today following a major refurbishment – with a brand-new live music venue set to bring bands and grassroots artists to Bank Street.

The Hop and Cobbles, formerly known simply as The Hop, will reopen at 12pm today following a transformation designed to give the venue a fresh new look while keeping its traditional pub character.

The Bank Street venue has undergone a major refresh, but customers can still expect the cosy, familiar atmosphere that has made it a well-known name in Wakefield.

And there are plenty of new features to discover.

The refurbished pub now boasts pool tables and dart boards, while a new pie menu has also been introduced, giving customers more options when it comes to food and traditional pub entertainment.

But perhaps the biggest change is happening in the former Alter Ego bar.

The space is being transformed into Backroom, a brand-new live music venue which will provide a dedicated home for live performances.

The venue is expected to showcase a mix of grassroots artists, emerging local talent and touring bands, bringing live music back to the building.

The move will also take the venue back to its roots, with live music returning following The Hop's original opening in 2008.

A spokesperson for the venue said the refurbishment was about “giving the pub a fresh new look while retaining the character and atmosphere of a traditional pub.”

Backroom is expected to open later this month, adding another live entertainment destination to Wakefield's city centre.
