Covid infection rates drop in just over half of Yorkshire and the Humber's neighbourhoods

Coronavirus infections fell in just over half of Yorkshire and the Humber's hundreds of neighbourhoods over one week, according to latest figures.

The region has 692 neighbourhoods across 21 local authority areas.

Cases fell in 356 of those areas in the seven days up to January 23, JPIMedia Data Team analysis of the Government's Covid-19 stats shows - just 10 more neighbourhoods than half of the region's total.

The latest, third lockdown began on January 5 and stark differences can be seen in which council areas around the region were experiencing a decrease in cases.

For example in the Craven district, cases were dropping in all eight neighbourhoods, whereas in Leeds it was 56 of 107 areas, and in Sheffield 27 of 70.

In Scarborough, 13 of 14 neighbourhoods recorded drops, whereas Wakefield only saw reductions in 15 of 45.

The statistics include areas of Lincolnshire which have historically formed part of the Humber.
