Pub manager from Wakefield crowned General Manager of the Year at prestigious awards
A Wakefield man has been named ‘General Manager of the Year’ at a leading pub retailer’s annual conference.
James Hodgson, general manager at Birchwood Farm in Glasshoughton, was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the restaurant, team and customers at Greene King’s annual Managed Pub Conference.
George was one of just nine pub leaders from across the country to receive the accolade at the awards ceremony, held in Manchester on October 8.
Winners were judged on their performance across all areas of the role, alongside their leadership, team engagement and the respect they earned from colleagues and peers before the final nine were selected by Greene King’s Brand Operations Directors.

James, who began working as general manager at Birchwood Farm in March last year, said: “It’s an incredible honour to receive this award, particularly after what has been such a special year for me and my family.
"I first worked at Birchwood Farm as an assistant manager back in 2010, so having the opportunity to return to Yorkshire and lead the team here really has felt like coming full circle.
"I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together, from the high standards we deliver every day to the great food and friendly service our guests know us for.
"This award is a testament to the hard work and passion of the whole team, and I’m really excited about what we can achieve together next.”
