Work to improve access to Pontefract Castle due to start
Visitors to Pontefract Castle will not be able to drive up to the main entrance gates for three months.
From August 28 to November 27 there will be no vehicle access up to the main entrance gates.

The restrictions will be temporary while work is carried out on Pontefract Masterplan’s 'Streets for People' project.
Works are being carried out to improve the route from Pontefract town centre to the castle.
The disabled parking bays will also be out of use.
Drivers will be able to drop people off up to the ‘road closed’ signs and pedestrians will be able to access the castle as normal.
There will also be a full parking suspension on Spink Lane and Castle Chain.
The main car park behind the castle will still be open for use.
Visitors are advised to use WF8 2JF in sat navs or What3Words code prefer.frog.pays for the car park location.
Limited alternative accessible parking will be available.
Major Floor Coverings & Furniture - a two minute walk from the castle - have kindly offered two of their spaces for Pontefract Castle visitor disabled parking during the works.
Major Floor Coverings & Furniture is in the former Methodist Church, on Micklegate.
People wanting to use the spaces are advised to put WF8 1QG sat navs or What3Words code ///bottle.novel.icons.
A Blue Badge needs to be displayed to use one of the spaces.
A Wakefield Council spokesperson said: "The site will be noisier and dustier during these works.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these works. They are part of a project that will improve access to the castle in the near future.”
