Pilgrim's Progress column with Philip Hobday: Results

You might be surprised – as I was – to learn that young people still collect their GCSE results in person. I’d just assumed that these days they got an email, or perhaps online, or maybe even by text message.

I don’t think I was just being old fashioned when I found myself being rather cheered up by this news.

Emails and messages and websites have their place – many of you will be reading this online, for example! But some things need to be done in person and shared with others – particularly if it’s a moment of celebration, sadness, or change: and exam results can be all three!

Other kinds of result are best shared with others too – results from the hospital scan, the job interview, the sports fixture, and more.

For Christians, one of the great things about being part of a church community is it’s a natural place to share this kind of thing and get support from those around us.

And, even more, we believe that God shares these moments too.

This week then I’m sparing prayer for all those waiting for results of whatever kind, that they may draw strength from sharing the experience with others who care for them, and that they will know God’s presence and peace whatever the outcome.
