'I'm running the Wakefield Hospice 5K Night Run for my dad'
The Wakefield Hospice 5K Night Run returns on Saturday, October 3, with runners of all abilities taking on the out-and-back route along Neil Fox Way.
Lily McHale is one of those runners taking on the event for a reason close to her heart, running in-memory of her dad, Stephen, who was cared for during his final days at Wakefield Hospice.
Lily said: “Waiting for the ambulance to take my dad to Wakefield Hospice broke my heart, just knowing why we were going there and what was waiting for us.
“But within 24 hours of receiving some kind, compassionate and appropriate care they gave my dad back to me for almost 10 more days.

“Before that I thought we had already lost huge parts of him for good but over the next couple of days he was making jokes and able to enjoy spending time with his family again.
“It is unbelievably important that we all have access to hospice services for when the worst happens so that people dying receive exceptional care but also so that their
families don’t lose any part of them a day too soon.
“Running 5k is no impressive feat for some people but I hate running and I’m proud to be supporting Wakefield Hospice who supported my lovely dad during the last few
days of his life.”
The run will start at 7pm on Neil Fox Way, next to Wakefield Hospice. Minimum entry age is 11 and everyone taking part will receive a free event t-shirt and are tasked with raising £50 in sponsorship.
