Lockwood Haulage workers end strike after winning improved pay deal

Workers at a haulage firm in Knottingley and South Kirkby have ended 10 days of strike action after securing an improved pay deal.

Unite had warned the industrial action could affect supplies of bottles for major drinks brands including Coca-Cola, Stella and Johnnie Walker whisky, with the workers employed in Lockwood Haulage's glass division.

Forty workers, who are members of Unite, have returned to work after securing a 2.5 per cent pay increase, according to the union.

They had rejected an initial one per cent increase, applied across all grades and allowances and backdated to March 1, 2025.

The new 2.5 per cent deal will also be backdated to March 1, 2025, while a previous plan to replace annual pay increases with an attendance-linked bonus has been scrapped.

The workers are forklift truck drivers and machine operators in the glass division.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Well done to Unite members at Lockwood, who stood together on the picket line in their fight for a better deal and won. It shows the power of a union.”

Regional officer Jessica Sangha said the union was pleased the dispute had ended with a better pay rise for the workers.

She added: “The result proves unionising works. Any worker who wants improved pay and conditions should join Unite and encourage their colleagues to do the same.”

The dispute follows previous industrial action by workers at the Knottingley site in 2025, when workers were campaigning for union recognition after their transfer from GXO.

Unite subsequently secured recognition for collective bargaining at Lockwood.

The Express has approached Lockwood for comment.
