'Proud': Wakefield Hospice recognised for work with Armed Forces veterans
Wakefield Hospice has been accredited as a Veteran Aware organisation, reinforcing their commitment to making sure those who have served in the Armed forces receive the highest quality of care and support.
This accreditation highlights Wakefield Hospice’s dedication to understanding the unique needs of veterans and their families, including providing support for challenges such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), mental health concerns, and isolation.
By becoming veteran aware accredited, the hospice is strengthening its ability to support more patients with a military background ensuring they feel understood, respected, and cared for.
The hospice says that fairness and inclusion are central to the care provided.

The hospice encourages patients and families to let a member of staff know if they, or their spouse/partner, currently serve or have served in the UK Armed Forces, as this helps the team provide the most appropriate care, guidance, and support.
Tim Briggs, Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance Chair, said: “We’re very happy with Wakefield Hospice, a small unit but critical in hospice care.
"We’re delighted they have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and have now achieved the Bronze Award in recognition of their commitment.
"It’s good to see that their service champion is an ex-RAF medic.
"I’m very happy to sign off the accreditation.”
Wakefield Hospice’s commitment extends beyond patient care.
It also supports the Armed Forces community as an employer, recognising the valuable experiences and skills that ex-military individuals can bring through their service.
This commitment also includes supporting staff and volunteers who have a military background or military connections through fair opportunities, support for reservists and greater flexibility where needed, such as during periods of deployment for themselves or their spouses.
Deborah Noonan, People & Culture Coordinator at Wakefield Hospice said: “After signing the Armed Forces Covenant in 2025, we are proud to have taken the next step in demonstrating Wakefield Hospice’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community.
"From providing fair employment opportunities and flexible working for veterans, reservists and military families, to recognising the valuable skills and experience they bring, the Bronze Award reflects our ongoing dedication to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace.
"As a former member of the Armed Forces, it means a great deal to work for an organisation that truly understands and values that commitment.”
