Wakefield foodbank will give away free goods to people in need on Christmas Eve
A Wakefield foodbank that opened earlier this month will give away free food on Christmas Eve.
Wakefield Community Fridge is a foodbank based from Jamia Masjid Swafia in Eastmoor and will host an event between 5pm and 8pm tomorrow (Wednesday).
Posting on Facebook, the organisation said: “This week, we’re spreading some extra love and care to everyone in the Wakefield community.
"Thanks to our amazing local supermarkets, we’ve agreed to collect excess food after closing time on the 24th and offer it for free to anyone who wants it.

“No need to register, just turn up, take what you need, first come, first served, everything will be available to the entire community, no questions asked.
“Don’t forget your bag.”
The foodbank is volunteer run and is stocked with fresh food donated by residents, local organisations and businesses.
Director Atif Ali hopes it will be more than just a foodbank and represent unity and kindness.
The foodbank added: “Whether you’re in need, or just want to share in the good will, we’ve got something for everyone. Come down, take what you need, and let’s make sure no food goes to waste this December.
“Spread the word, bring your neighbours, and let’s care for each other.”
The mosque is located at Park Hill Lane.
Following the opening Mr Ali said: "No one should ever feel ashamed or hesitant to take advantage of this resource, as it’s a collective effort to support one another, regardless of background or circumstance.
"For many, the fridge offers a lifeline, reducing the stress of choosing between paying bills and buying groceries.
The fridge is open every Wednesday and Sunday 10am to noon.
