Wakefield pub raises £1,350 for suicide prevention charity in fundraising takeover

A Wakefield pub has raised £1,350 for a suicide prevention charity after regional bosses stepped behind the bar for a day of fundraising.

The event saw team members from Craft Union Pub Company, part of Stonegate Group, take over the running of the Royal Oak in Tingley, serving drinks and hosting activities including pool and darts competitions, DJ sets and raffles in aid of Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).

The takeover coincided with a busy football match day, helping draw a full crowd throughout the afternoon and evening.

A shirt raffle alone raised more than £200, with the winner announced at full time.

The fundraising was in support of CALM, which works to prevent suicide and provides support for people in crisis.

The charity is a partner of Stonegate Group and Craft Union, which has raised more than £50,000 in the past three months through similar events across their pubs.

Jason Herringshaw, a Craft Union regional manager, said the day highlighted the role local venues can play in supporting mental health causes.

He said: “Getting behind the bar and being part of the action alongside our teams and customers was a brilliant experience.

"The pub was absolutely packed, the atmosphere was incredible, and it really showed what our Tingley pub is all about.

“To raise £1,350 in a single day through the support of our guests and team is a fantastic achievement.”

More fundraising events are planned in the area to continue supporting CALM’s work and raising awareness around suicide prevention.
