Temporary traffic lights could cause delays

Temporary traffic lights could cause delays for motorists while work is carried out to replace old gas mains in Castleford.

Engineers from Northern Gas Networks (NGN) started upgrading 150 metres of metal gas mains in Aketon Road on Monday.

As part of the three-week project, two-way traffic lights will be in place for one week from May 31.

Paul Gordan, Construction Services Area Manager for Northern Gas Networks said: “We have been working closely with Wakefield Council to carefully plan these works and do all we can to minimise any disruption.

“We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused, and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting the project completed as quickly as possible.”

On street parking will also be restricted in Aketon Road between numbers 20-84 but access will be maintained.

The work is taking place Monday-Friday between 8am and 5pm.

It is part of NGN’s £60,000 major project to upgrade the area’s ageing gas distribution network.

Existing metal gas mains will be replaced with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply for residents.

The work is expected to be completed in June.
