Wakefield Trinity hero predicts more big occasions for the club

For Jay Pitts it might be the end of the rugby road playing-wise after hanging his boots up, but he is confident there is much more to come for Wakefield Trinity.

Pitts believes the historic 2026 Super League Grand Final triumph is only the beginning for a club who have been on an incredible rise in the last three years.

He will still be there to see what happens next after agreeing to stay on with the Wakefield club in a new role, taking on a pathways and transition coaching job, but it will not be on the pitch that he will be helping Trinity now after calling time on a fantastic 455-game career as a player.

He went out in the grandest of styles with the final victory and expects to see the club he made 191 appearances for enjoying more big occasions.

He said: “You just look at the players that we’ve got, and you look at the age of what they are as well.

“What’s been created, the culture, where the club’s going, what Matt (Ellis) has done with the club, honestly, it’s just an amazing place to play rugby.

“We had no real big game experience, so to come out and do that and to play such a professional game that was so disciplined, it sets us in such good stead going forward.”

On his own future Pitts admitted it will not be easy to adjust.

He added: “Honestly, I’m going to miss it so much, I am. I wish I was 10 years younger, I really do, but no, I’m so happy to have finished the way I have, but this team can go on forever and ever. It’s exciting for the club.”
