Adrian Wayne Blackburn, 36, turned violent after an argument in which she accused him of spending her savings on drugs.

He then accused her of cheating before using both fists to strike her around the head, prosecutor Joseph Bell told Leeds Crown Court.

The court was told that Blackburn and the woman had been in a relationship for four years and in August 2020 moved into a flat together on Post Office Road in Featherstone.

However, it had not been amicable and the police had been called on numerous occasions.

Last year Blackburn found out that his partner had been saving money which her father had been holding, and Blackburn went to his home to borrow that money on December 13.

When Blackburn returned home that evening the argument began and he pushed her into the bathroom before throwing the punches and splitting the skin above her eye, causing it to bleed.

She ran out into the communal area of the flats and he followed her warning her not to phone the police.

A neighbour came out and the victim told them she had slipped in the bathroom and cut her eye.

The victim eventually went to the police two days later and told them that Blackburn had attacked her.

Blackburn, of Post Office Road, Featherstone, already has 35 convictions for 65 offences, including multiple violent crimes against his partner for which he was served jail time.

Appearing in custody from HMP Leeds, the judge permitted him to read out a letter he had written.

He said: "I'm sorry to my partner. My drug addiction got the better of me.

"I really want to get off drugs, I really want the help.

"I just want help, prison does not help me. It just makes me worse. I just want to change."

He told the court that he has a rehabilitation programme lined up for when he is released.

Judge Neil Clark jailed him for seven months.
