UPDATE: Pictures show large blaze at primary school

Fire crews were scrambled to a large fire at a primary school in Castleford.

Eight fire engines attended the blaze at Airedale Junior School, in Fryston Road, after being called out last night at around 7.15pm.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service officers used four large jets and six breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire, which was in the roof of the building.

It has not yet been confirmed how the blaze started. No one was harmed.

A JustGiving page has been set up to help raise £200 for the school to support repair work.

It reads: “Such a devastating thing to happen to our community, all the hard work from the children and staff gone and the chance for all kids and staff to say their goodbyes for the school year.

“Now with only the summer hols to rebuild the school and I’m certain with very limited cash, I thought we could all club together even if it’s only £1 each we could help towards the repairs so our children can get a happy and safe place for their education.”

So far, £100 has been raised.
