Horbury Town lack a clinical edge in goalless draw with ‘bogey’ side Campion
After back to back defeats Horbury Town improved against a Campion side one place above them in the NCE Premier table – but had to settle for a point.
For the second game in a row they were unable to find the back of the net, after losing 2-0 at home to third-placed Barton Town in midweek, but this time picked up a point for their efforts in a goalless draw.
Still without a number of first teamers, they battled to the finish to come away with something from the game against strong opposition and manager Darren Barnes reckoned his team had certainly been worth their draw.
He said: “A fair result I would say. First half we had the better chances and I thought we played very well.

"Some of the chances we’ve had we should be taking and that’s been the story of the last three or four games.
"But we were playing some good stuff, we were working hard, shape was good, off the ball we defended well and they couldn’t break us down.
"Then in the second half I thought they came out the stronger and had more of the ball. They didn’t hurt us too much, but it looked like if anyone was going to get a goal it was them.
"We’ve had a couple of moments in and around the 18-yard box, but that clinical edge is not there at the minute.”
Barnes added: "We are creating chances, which is a positive thing, and we’ve taken a point against a Campion side which at any stage of the season is a good point. They’re a good side and we had never taken a point off them – they have been a bit of a bogey side to us since we joined the Counties.
"We could have won it, they could have won it at the end and overall I think it was a fair point.”
Horbury start their bid for West Riding County Cup glory with a first round tie against Leeds UFCA on Tuesday night.
They are back in league action on Saturday with a tough test away at Premier leaders Dearne & District then return to home soil to take on fifth-placed Retford United next Tuesday.
