Lucas Robinson strikes twice as Frickley Athletic collect vital three points
After defeats in their previous two games Frickley Athletic bounced back with a strong showing at home to Eccleshill United in the Macron NCE Premier Division.
Two Lucas Robinson goals in the first 24 minutes set the Blues on the way to victory and after the visitors pulled a goal back Elliott Andrew’s penalty sealed a victory that should boost confidence again after a tough week with a 3-1 loss to Beverley Town and a 2-0 defeat to Parkgate in midweek.
Martyn Woolford’s men have had a decent campaign, but had lost five home games in a row so were clearly keen to put it right and quick out of the blocks through the early Robinson double.
They were unable to kick on as well as they would have liked after the flying start, but were worthy winners and the manager admitted it was more about winning than playing well on this occasion.

He said: “It was all about the three points. It was a game that could have sucked us into a battle we don’t want to be involved in.
"I’m a little bit disappointed at this stage of the season that’s where we’re at because we’ve been on a bit of a bad run and it didn’t matter how we performed, it was all about the three points.
“But to be fair the lads played well. There was a little bit of a sticky period just before half-time and they got back in the game.
"But the lads came out second half and in the end it was very comfortable. That’s how it should have been the whole way through.
"It showed that we shouldn’t be down at the bottom end competing, we should be up the other end, but the fact of the matter is we’ve not been getting the results recently so it was massively important we got back on track.
"The pleasing thing was that we played good football in the right areas at the right time.”
Frickley now travel to top of the table Liversedge on Tuesday night before a return to home soil to face fourth-placed Barton Town in another big test on Saturday.
“It’s about keep building, keep improving and keep working – that’s what we’ll do,” added Woolford.
"We’ve got a tough game so we need to go again, but it’s just little improvements every single time, you learn from the wins and learn from the losses.”
Struggling Glasshoughton Welfare were on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline at home to Brigg Town in NCE Division One after conceding four times in the first half.
They try again to end their long run without a win at Harrogate Railway Athletic on Tuesday night and travel to Club Thorne Colliery on Saturday.
