Lewis puts down a marker to qualify for world duathlon championships

Former Normanton Knights Centre turned athlete Chris Lewis shrugged off the lockdown blues to give an outstanding performance at the Tri Hard Yorkshire Duathlon held in Darlington on Sunday.

Completing a 5k run followed by a 20k bike ride then a further 2.5k run in 58 minutes, he finished in first place in his 35-39 year age group and seventh position overall.

Lewis’s effort qualified him to represent Team GB in the 2022 World Sprint Distance Duathlon Championships, which are due to be held in Townville, Australia next year.

In athletics, meanwhile, Wakefield Harriers Under 13s runner Libby Cree was in fantastic record breaking form again last Saturday.

Libby set a new club record when competing in the Trafford Open over 1200m, recording a time of three minutes, 53.1. The latest effort follows a recent club record 800m run.

Harriers’ Jess Watson made a good debut in the 1500m with a time of 5.07.44.
