Agar: Final round of Super League games should kick-off simultaneously

Wildcats take on Salford City Reds at the Leigh Sports Village tomorrow, Saturday (kick-off 6.15pm) with victory guaranteeing a place in the top-eight play-offs.

But Agar’s side could kick-off in ninth position if Bradford Bulls beat Catalans Dragons in Perpignan just hours earlier, ramping up the pressure on Wildcats.

It’s a position Agar believes could, and should be avoided.

“I think all the last round games should kick-off at the same time,” he said.

“I understand the obligations for television, maybe there’s something that can be worked out but when there are spots to be played for it’s really good to have everybody playing at the same time.

“From our perspective when the Bradford result comes through, all of a sudden it can crank up a hell of a lot of pressure on us.”

Agar says last weekend’s late kick-off, which saw his side limp to victory over bottom club Widnes Vikings, didn’t favour his side.

He can, however, use his team’s below-par showing on Sunday to improve against Salford this weekend.

“Last week’s game, or the stuff that happened, probably came at a good time for us,” he commented.

“It’s enabled us to get away with a below-par performance and give ourselves an opportunity to have a good look at it, work on some things and hopefully put them right.”

He added: “I think the lads’ attitude in training this week has been great. We’re ready for it.”

Wildcats have named an unchanged 19-man squad for the trip across the Pennines.
