Agar: Wakefield Wildcats squad building may not be finished just yet

WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats head coach Richard Agar has revealed his squad building for Super League XVIII may not be finished just yet.

Agar signed prop Brad Singleton on a two-month loan deal from Leeds Rhinos earlier this month - his sixth signing of the close season - but the ’Cats boss would still like to add more punch to his forward options.

That relies on current players leaving the club before more new additions come in, however, and no such deals are in the pipeline.

“I still think we’re probably a forward light,” said Agar.

“But at this moment in time there’s no real scope for bringing anyone in unless someone goes out and there’s nothing forthcoming there.”

One player who could fit the bill is Wigan Warriors second row Gareth Hock, with reports across the Pennines suggesting two Super League clubs are interested in signing the 29-year-old.

Agar refused to be drawn into revealing if Wakefield are one of those clubs tracking the England international but admitted he would be interested if an opportunity arose.

“Of course he’s a player we’d be interested in but I think a lot of clubs around the world would be interested in him,” he said.

“But back in the real world I’ve not seen any rumours over where he’s going, if he’s going anywhere, so it’s a case of let’s see what happens.”

Widnes Vikings have been linked with a move for Hock although a fee would be involved in his signature, something that could prove a stumbling block for Wildcats.
