Derby clash a bit special for Wildcats' Castleford-born scrum-half Kyle Wood

WAKEFIELD Trinity Wildcats scrum-half Kyle Wood says he is treating this weekend's derby against Castleford Tigers just like any other game.

"I've got a lot of friends and know people who support Cas' so that's a little bit different.

"They'll get into me before the game but I think it's just like any other game really."

Wildcats and Tigers are set to battle it out for the bragging rights after one win each in the head-to-heads so far this season.

Tigers won 34-16 at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium in April but then Wildcats claimed the scalp at the Magic Weekend in May.

And Wood will be hoping his side can claim the bragging rights against his hometown club at the PROBIZ Coliseum tomorrow.

"I'm obviously a local Cas' lad. My friends will obviously be routing for Cas but I think a lot of my friends will be thinking in the back of their heads 'I hope he does well' so that's a plus point too.

"It's good after the game to talk to my mates and if we've got the win I think I'll have a bit of banter with them."

Wildcats head into this weekend's derby 11th in the Super League standings - one place and four points ahead of Castleford.

"We've got the form behind us but they're coming off a bit of bad form having lost last week so I think they'll be coming out firing," Wood said.

"I think that'll make it a big game for them and they will be really eyeing the win up.

"With the form we're in and if we put as much effort in as we have been doing and I think we'll do well."

Wildcats are looking for their third consecutive victory after wins over Huddersfield and Leeds, but Sunday's clash will give Wakefield the favourites tag on form.

And Wood added that head coach Richard Agar has set his side the task of achieving victory.

"They're out of the top eight and they're below us so I think we've got to aim up this weekend and keep that effort and enthusiasm," he said.
