Wakefield Trinity could bring forward routine end-of-season surgeries if relegation is scrapped in Super League

Wakefield Trinity might put some of their stars under the knife before the end of the Super League season if relegation is taken off the table.

Head coach Chris Chester expects a clean bill of health when Trinity return to training, barring the absence of Joe Arundel who is out for the season with an ACL injury.

However, more players could be forced to the sidelines if Wakefield opt to bring forward their routine end-of-season surgeries.

Super League chief executive Robert Elstone has already suggested that relegation will be be scrapped if the top-flight campaign resumes.

“Barring Joe Arundel, he will be out until next season, we should have everyone back,” said Chester.

“There are some guys who will need some operations at the end of the season but we don’t know whether, depending if there is relegation or promotion, to get those guys done sooner rather than later.

“There are always some operations needed at the end of the year, some clean outs and things like that but we will have to wait and see.”
