Arriva Yorkshire launches new Community Hub at Wakefield Bus Station
Arriva Yorkshire has launched a new Community Hub at Wakefield Bus Station as part of its ongoing work to improve the customer experience and support the community.
Developed in collaboration with West Yorkshire Police, the hub will provide a dedicated base for Police Community Support Officers. They will operate from the space three days a week as part of their regular presence in and around the bus station.

The hub will also be made available for use by community groups, offering a flexible space for meetings, engagement activity and events.
The launch forms part of a wider programme of activity at Wakefield Bus Station focused on creating a welcoming environment for customers.

Alongside the introduction of the Community Hub, Arriva is working closely with Wakefield Council to support the installation of additional CCTV cameras, helping to deliver enhanced coverage across the bus station and the surrounding area.
Illustrator Louise Maclachlan has created bespoke artwork on the hub’s windows. Her designs celebrate Wakefield’s landmarks and scenes, reflecting the city’s rich heritage and character.
Arriva UK Bus managing director, Martijn Gilbert, visited the bus station to mark the launch alongside Simon Lightwood, MP for Wakefield and Rothwell
Mr Gilbert said: “Arriva Yorkshire is committed to the communities we serve. It doesn’t stop at providing reliable transport.
“We are part of everyday life in Yorkshire. As one of the area’s largest employers, with more than 800 colleagues from the local community, we’re determined to play our part in supporting a welcoming and well-connected city centre.
“The Community Hub is just one example of how we’re working closely with partners including the police, the council, local charities and community groups to support the people who live and work in Wakefield.”
Mr Lightwood said: “The new Community Hub is a really welcome addition to Wakefield Bus Station and a great example of what can be achieved when partners work together.
“I’ve previously heard concerns from constituents about safety in and around the station, and this hub will give people a clear, visible place to go if they need support or reassurance.
“It’s encouraging to see Arriva, West Yorkshire Police and Wakefield Council taking practical steps to improve the experience for passengers and strengthen community confidence.
"This is exactly the kind of partnership working that helps make our city centre safer, more welcoming and better connected for everyone.”
West Yorkshire Police Sergeant Richard Cotton said: “The Community Hub is a very welcome addition to Wakefield Bus Station.
"Having a dedicated space available supports our work with members of the public who may need assistance while using the bus network, as well as providing a base for planned engagement activity.
“It will also be used to promote national awareness campaigns throughout the year, including Hate Crime Week and Violence Against Women and Girls.”
