Normanton-based manufacturing firm supports charity in festive pyjama drive

A Normanton-based manufacturing firm has teamed up with The Clothing Bank, a charity tackling clothing poverty in Britain, to support its Christmas drive

The Clothing Bank, which operates across the north of England and Midlands, launched the drive to give every struggling child in the north of England a new pair of pyjamas for Christmas.

To support the charity, employees at SEW Eurodrive UK, who are based in Normanton, collected 160 new children’s pyjamas, socks and blankets to donate.

As well as contributing pyjamas, the SEW Eurodrive UK team has been supporting the charity since last December, hosting a collection bin on its site which has since received over 700 donated items.

Speaking of the partnership, sales engineer, Bethany Stockwell, said: “The Clothing Bank has hit an all-time high this year of people requiring clothes, having to unfortunately turn people away as they couldn’t cope with demand.

“This made us want to push further. My colleague, Niamh Brown in the purchasing team, and I have been working closely with the Bank to identify what items are needed most and drive that within our team.

"We hope that we can continue to promote the initiative within SEW Eurodrive and the wider community to bring awareness that working families cannot afford to dress their children.

"Our aim is to pull together as a community to help keep people warm and comfortable this Christmas and beyond.”

The Clothing Bank has over 120 drop off points and collection bins in Yorkshire, including All Saints Church in Ackworth, Wheldon Infant School & Nursery in Castleford, Hillside Childcare in Normanton, and Spectrum Community Health CIC in Wakefield.

A spokesperson for The Clothing Bank said: “Over 10,000 people have been supported and clothed by The Clothing Bank this year. 1,200 Christmas packs of new outfits and new pyjamas have been given out so far and there are more to come.

“We have now started working with five local schools in the area where children and families can be referred and supported.

“The need for this bank is massive, we are grateful to SEW Eurodrive UK for their continued support, it gives us hope that we can all come together to tackle clothing poverty.”
