£20m investment for Lupset - and you can help decide where the money will be spent

Following the recent announcement of Lupset’s inclusion in the Government’s Pride in Place programme, a Neighbourhood Board has now been formally appointed, marking a significant milestone in the delivery of a £20 million, 10‑year investment for the area.

The Lupset Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board, chaired by Simon Topham, Chief Executive of Citizens Advice Wakefield District, will lead the programme locally and ensure it is shaped by community priorities.

The Board brings together a range of local partners and individuals with strong connections to the area, who will work collaboratively to shape priorities, oversee projects, and ensure the programme reflects the needs and ambitions of the Lupset community.

This £2million a year can help improve such things as community centres, parks, local facilities, streets and public spaces.

It can also support projects that help people and bring the community closer together.

As part of its commitment to remaining resident‑focused, the Board is inviting two local residents to join as community representatives.

These roles will play a vital part in ensuring that the voices, experiences and ideas of Lupset residents are at the heart of decision‑making. Alongside this, a People’s Panel will be convened to advise the Board, made up entirely of Lupset residents.

A leaflet will shortly be distributed across the area covered by the programme, providing more information about it, the role of the Board, and how residents can express their interest in getting involved.

Simon Topham, Chair of the Lupset Pride in Place Board, said: "Pride in Place is a huge opportunity for Lupset. It will bring £20 million of investment into the area, and it is vital that local people have a decisive voice in how this is spent.

"I’d like to encourage and welcome residents to get involved either by applying to be on the board or by taking part in the Peoples Panel."

Simon Lightwood, MP for Wakefield and Rothwell, said: “I am delighted that Lupset has been recognised for this important investment by our Government.

"This represents a fantastic opportunity for local residents to come together, get involved, and play a real part in shaping the future of their community.”

"Residents are encouraged to look out for the leaflet and take the opportunity to learn more about how they can get involved in shaping the future of Lupset.
