First festive donations arrive for Wakefield Christmas Hamper Appeal

Our wonderful Wakefield Express readers have already delivered some hampers in just the second week of our annual Christmas Hamper Appeal.

The appeal, organised by Chantry Rotary Club, Wakefield and CAP (the Community Awareness Programme) aims to provide some much-needed Christmas cheer to underprivileged families in the Wakefield and Five Towns area as we approach the festive season.

Now in its 12th year the appeal, which is supported by the Wakefield Express, aims to deliver between 500 and 600 hampers to those families in need this Christmas.

We are asking you – the Express readers – to once again support this tremendous appeal which over the years has provided more than 7,000 hampers to those in need.

You can help by donating finished hampers (see the contents list below) or by donating money to finance the appeal. We need all donations, either money or hampers to be with CAP by Friday, November 20 please. Once collected and packed the hampers are distributed by the Children First organisation which ensures that they go to those who need them most.

For those who would prefer to donate money to the appeal this can be done at CAP, 2-8 Market Street in Wakefield.

CAP projects manager Kevin Dobson will be pleased to accept any financial donations which will be ring fenced solely for the appeal.

Chantry Rotary Club will be organising the packing and bulk distribution of the hampers, with CAP organising the collection of money and food to allow the hampers to be both collected and made up.

For those of our readers who want to donate a finished hamper, a list of the food that should be included is detailed below. Please remember – do not include any alcohol of any sort, and no fresh, chilled or frozen goods are allowed.

Hampers should include tea and coffee, sugar, long life milk, breakfast cereals, tinned potatoes or instant mash, a small selection of tinned vegetables, stuffing, tinned meat, pasta or rice, pasta in sauce, cup soups, gravy mix, tinned fruit, juice or squash, jams, biscuits, children’s Christmas sweets and a box of chocolates.
