Horbury neighbours raise almost £3,000 for good causes with Christmas lights spectacular

Residents of Southfield Close in Horbury transformed their street into a magical Christmas wonderland - raising almost £3,000 for local good causes.

The now much-loved annual display, close to the Horbury by-pass, saw thousands of twinkling lights and a real Christmas tree installed to create a festive spectacle for everyone to enjoy.

The lights were officially switched on in early December, with the celebration featuring an open-air performance by Horbury Victoria Band and a visit by Santa, adding to the seasonal atmosphere.

Each year, neighbours club together to purchase the tree, install the lights and organise the switch-on event, which attracts hundreds of visitors.

The initiative has become a highlight of the Horbury Christmas calendar and a shining example of community spirit in action.

Thanks to the generosity of visitors and supporters, two local charities have each received £1,400.

Cheques were presented to Wakefield Hospice and MY Breast Cancer Support WY, organisations that provide vital support to people and families across the district.
