Old Westgate Station car park to close temporarily as work on new hotel begins
The Old Westgate Station car park will close next month as plans for a new hotel in Wakefield city centre advance.
The popular car park will temporarily close for three weeks, from November 2 until November 23, to carry out surveys preparing the site for future development.
In March, ION Developments was confirmed as the partner that will deliver a brand-new, purpose-built hotel on the site.
The new hotel aims to bring new investment, visitors and opportunities to the city centre.

With at least 110 rooms expected near the East Coast Main Line, it is also expected to attract business stays to Wakefield.
Coun Matthew Pinder, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for District Regeneration and Regional Growth, said: “It's encouraging to see we’re making real progress on this project now.
“To allow these surveys to take place safely, we'll need to temporarily close the car park for a short time.
"We know this may cause some inconvenience, but plenty of parking is still available across the city centre.
“We plan to reopen the car park as soon as the work is complete. And keep it open for as long as possible before building the new hotel begins.”
The surveys will provide important information about ground conditions and help to ensure the development progresses smoothly.
Once finished, the car park will reopen for public use until building work begins in 2027.
