Frickley fail to follow-up goal crazy exploits against 10-man Golcar

After smashing in 12 goals in their previous two games Frickley Athletic were unable to find the back of the net as they lost at Golcar United in the NCE Premier Division.

The Blues had won 7-0 in midweek in a third round Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup tie at Nostell MW and hammered Rossington Main 5-1 in the league the previous weekend.

But it was tough for them at Golcar with George Doyle putting their opponents ahead midway through the second half and Alfie Wilkinson netting late on to complete a 2-0 result.

Frickley were unable to capitalise on having an extra man for an hour of the game after the home team’s Hayden Webster was sent-off following a two-footed tackle on Charles Price.

Defeat left them fourth from bottom and was disappointing following their goal scoring exploits in the previous two games.

Their midweek demolition of Nostell in the cup tie saw them three up by half-time. Sam Cable bagged a hat-trick with further goals from Henley Walker, William Jenkinson and Keelan Grist (two).

Bailey Wright, meanwhile, has left Frickley following a seven-day approach from another NCEL team.

The Blues take on Pickering Town at home this Saturday then host leaders Dearne and District next Tuesday.

In Division One, Hemsworth MW remain third from bottom following a 3-0 home defeat to mid-table Club Thorne Colliery.

A goalless first half saw Wells in the contest until two goals in five minutes from Luke Williams put the visitors in charge.

Joe Hare’s late goal sealed victory for Thorne, making it eight losses from their last nine games in all competitions for Hemsworth.

The team will be hoping for an upturn in fortune when they host LIV this Saturday.

Kinsley Boys suffered a third successive defeat when they went down 2-0 to Armthorpe Welfare in their NCE Division One game.

After being mauled 8-0 by Brigg Town the previous week it was an improvement, but two goals from Liam Flanagan just before half-time proved enough for their visitors to take the points.

It saw Kinsley drop down to 14th in the table ahead of another home game against Selby Town on Saturday.

They are also in action at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic in a second round League Cup tie on Wednesday,
