Start the festive season in style as Pontefract, Castleford and Ossett light up this November
The festive season is set to get off to a sparkling start as Wakefield Council brings Christmas cheer to town centres across the district this November.
Families and visitors can enjoy a packed programme of festive fun at the Light Switch-On events in Castleford, Ossett and Pontefract, with live entertainment, festive markets, tasty treats and plenty of activities for all ages.
The events will feature festive markets, with traders offering a wide range of gifts and treats — from cakes and candles to jewellery and gin.
Visitors can also enjoy live performances on the main stages, compered by Rhubarb Radio, showcasing a variety of local talent including Castleford Male Voice Choir, Liquorice Singers and Stagecoach Pontefract.

There will be plenty to keep everyone refreshed too, with tasty street food, snacks and drinks available throughout the events.
Families can enjoy funfair rides and a giant snowglobe, before each celebration reaches its highlight with the official Light Switch-On at 5.30pm.
Coun Lukasz Borcz, Cabinet Member for Culture and Sport, said: “We can’t wait to welcome everyone to enjoy the fun and festive cheer at these special events, with so much to see and do.
“You can also take the opportunity to start your Christmas shopping early while you’re in our town centres and support our local businesses.”
