Wakefield road closures: The roads to avoid this week across the district

And 13 of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that three closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M1, until 6am January 10 2026, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M62 eastbound and westbound, junction 28 to junction 31 and M1 northbound and southbound, junction 40 to junction 44. M621 clockwise, junction 7, carriageway and lane closures for parapet replacement works, diversion in place M62 M1 A653.

• M1, until 6am January 16 2026, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M1 northbound and southbound, junction 37 to junction 40, carriageway and lane closures for carriageway improvement works.

• A1, until 6am March 1 2026, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1 northbound and southbound, Barnsdale bar to Ferrybridge, carriageway closure and lane closures for structure works, diversion route in place via local authority network.

And a further 18 closures will begin over the next two weeks:

• M1, from 8pm January 5 to 6am January 7, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M62 eastbound and westbound, junction 29 to junction 30, carriageway and lane closures for inspection/survey, diversion via M62 and M1.

• A1(M), from 9pm January 5 to 5am January 11, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound, junction 37 to junction 38, Lane closure for general cleaning and maintenance.

• M1, from 9pm January 5 to 5am January 6, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M1 northbound, junction 41, slip road and lane closure for barrier/fence safety repairs, diversion via M1 and A638.

• M1, from 8pm January 6 to 6am February 7, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M1 northbound and southbound, junction 40 to junction 42, M62 eastbound and westbound, junction 29 to junction 30, slip road closures and lane closures electrical works, diversion M1 M62 A639 A642 A653.

• M62, from 9pm January 6 to 5am January 7, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M62 eastbound, junction 29 to junction 30, Lane closure for carriageway repairs.

• M62, from 9pm January 7 to 5am January 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M62 eastbound, junction 31 to junction 32, slip road and lane closure for carriageway repairs, diversion via M62.

• M62, from 9pm January 7 to 5am January 8, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M62 westbound, junction 31 to junction 30, slip road closure for carriageway repairs, diversion M62.

• M1, from 10am to 2.30pm on January 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M1 northbound, junction 39 to junction 40, Lane closure for technology works.

• M62, from 8pm January 8 to 5am January 9, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M62 westbound, junction 31 to junction 30, carriageway closure for technology works, diversion M62 A642.

• M1, from 9pm January 8 to 6am January 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M1 southbound, junction 40, Lane closures for fence repair works.

• M62, from 9pm January 9 to 5am January 10, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M62 eastbound, junction 30, slip road and lane closure for road markings, diversion route via M62 and A655.

• M62, from 9pm January 10 to 5am January 11, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M62 westbound, junction 30 to junction 29, Lane closure for carriageway repair works.

• M1, from 9pm January 11 to 6am January 12, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M1 southbound, junction 39, slip road and lane closures for carriageway repair works, diversion route M1 and A637.

• M1, from 8pm January 12 to 6am January 13, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M1 northbound and southbound, junction 39 to junction 41, Lane closure for general cleaning and maintenance works.

• M62, from 8pm January 13 to 5am January 14, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M62 eastbound, junction 30, slip road and lane closure for technology works, diversion via local authority and National Highways networks.

• M1, from 8pm January 13 to 6am January 14, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M1 northbound and southbound, junction 41 to junction 42, Lane closure for general cleaning and maintenance.

• A1(M), from 8pm January 15 to 5am January 16, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M62 westbound, junction 32A to junction 32, slip road and lane closures for technology works, diversion via M62 and A639.

• M1, from 9pm January 18 to 5am January 19, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M62 eastbound, junction 29, carriageway and lane closures for structure maintenance, diversion via M62 and A642.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
