Plans submitted for ‘health-focused’ grill takeaway in Wakefield

A proposal has been submitted to Wakefield Council to convert a former betting shop into a new health-focused grill takeaway in Alverthorpe.

The scheme has been submitted by an operator linked to Sofra Express Grill Kitchen, a nearby business, which says demand has outgrown its current premises.

The proposal would change the use of the premises from a betting shop to a health-focused grill takeaway.

It said the proposed use is intended as a modern food takeway, which it described as “offering freshly prepared, healthier fast-food options, including grilled meats, balanced meals, and meal prep services”.

It said that expansion was required due to space constraints at the current premises.

The concept is described throughout the supporting documents as a health-led alternative to traditional takeaway food, with a focus on grilled rather than fried cooking.

The applicant said the scheme would bring a vacant unit back into use, create employment opportunities and support regeneration along Alverthorpe Road.
