Security guard to be locked in box for charity

Micky Lockey from Hemsworth is to spend 50 hours locked in glass box to raise awareness of autism

The aptly named Micky Lockey will be encased in the foyer of Tesco in Market Street, Hemsworth to highlight the work of a national charity which helps youngsters with the condition.

The security manager will enter the 3x2 metre structure at noon on Wednesday, August 10 and will not leave it until 2pm on Friday, August 12.

Mr Lockey, 26, of Hemsworth said: “Autism is one of the country’s most prevalent disabilities with 133,500 children currently diagnosed with the condition in the UK. That’s a staggering number and yet many people, including myself, have little or no understanding of the disability.

“People have told me that it can be a lonely place when your child is diagnosed on the autistic spectrum. I’m hoping that parents of children with the condition come into the store and tell me about their experiences. Only by talking to them will I begin to get a better understanding of the challenges that they face each day.”
