'Be bright be seen': Region’s road safety partnership shares plea as clocks go back this weekend

‘Be bright be seen’ - that’s the plea from the region’s road safety partnership ahead of the clocks going back this weekend.

West Yorkshire Vision Zero, the county wide partnership working to end road death, is urging everybody to do all they can to keep roads safe as the nights begin to get longer.

Longer nights increase the risk of pedestrians being killed or seriously injured, alongside careless driving.

In October 2025, three people were killed and 87 were seriously injured on roads across West Yorkshire.

Baroness Alison Lowe OBE, Chair of the West Yorkshire Vision Zero Board and Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, said: “Road death and serious injuries are avoidable.

“By doing simple things like taking extra time to check the road, driving at safe speeds and ensuring your lights are on we can all make a difference.

“There’s so much to look forward to at this time of year, so let’s do everything we can to keep each other safe.”
