Hussain leads winning run chase as Sandal stun league leaders
After beating the team in second the previous week Sandal went one better by defeating the leaders as they kept themselves in the promotion race in Division One of the Bradford Cricket League.
A five-wicket victory over table toppers Hanging Heaton saw Sandal close to within 28 points of them and they are 24 behind Yeadon, but with only three games remaining they know they have to win all of them to have any chance of a top two finish.
Nevertheless they produced another fine display as they chased down a formidable 272-6 total to win with eight balls to spare.
Despite Umar Abbas taking 3-63 Hanging Heaton batted strongly. But Sandal responded impressively. Leighton Shuttleworth (59) and Sam Owen (36) gave them a solid base before Sohail Hussain took control with a fine 87 from 85 balls, including four sixes and nine fours.

Sasindu Malshan's 47 kept them on course and Abbas and Denson Narayan finished the job.
Ossett went down by seven wickets despite posting a decent 200 score with Saminda Ganwarige hitting 66, Josh Wild 30 and Jack Stevenson 28.
They were unable to prevent Birstall from racing to 203-3 in only 35 overs in their reply.
Carlton were up against Premier Division leaders Townville and were unable to prevent them from strengthening their grip on top spot as they suffered a five-wicket defeat.
Farukh Alam hit a battling 72, including nine fours and two sixes, while Naveed Malik contributed 28, but the 179 score did not prove big enough to trouble Townville.
Altofts stunned promotion-chasing Great Preston in Division Two with a three-wicket victory in a high-scoring contest.
Great Preston amassed 274-9 despite 3-91 from Joshua Morris and 3-49 for Conor Andrews.
But Altofts responded superbly. Openers Saif Tahir (75) and Andrew Wood (41) gave them a great start with a 130-run stand before Ben Walsh smashed seven sixes in a powerful 78 from 58 balls.
The game went right down to the final ball, with Altofts emerging as winners after Richard Vigars hit a boundary.
Streethouse collected a 20-point maximum haul when they beat promotion-chasing Keighley by eight wickets.
A great start saw Keighley reduced to 10-4 and although Yasar Ali counter-attacked with 48 from 45 balls they were bowled out for 104. Ismail Patel was the chief destroyer with 5-47.
Streethouse lost Dishane Rodrigo without a run on the board as they began their reply, but Matthew Gibson's unbeaten 53 and Gabe Lawson's 41 not out quickly removed any prospect of an upset. Their unbroken third-wicket partnership helped carry Streethouse home in 25.4 overs.
Division Three leaders Scholes were beaten by 11 runs by Wrenthorpe while second-placed Adwalton were defeated by 78 runs at East Ardsley.
Wrenthorpe made 225, with Shahzaib Sayeed leading the way with 58 and Alfie Holden contributing 39.
Scholes appeared well placed to chase the target after Nick Curtis Firth made 51 and Hunter Jackson-Sullivan an unbeaten 62. However, Wrenthorpe kept taking wickets and they were eventually dismissed for 214 as Sam Anderson took 3-93 and Holden 3-28.
Shahzad Iqbal hit 110 as East Ardsley made 221 against Adwalton. Dom Kinder contributed 33 and Michael Davies 27no.
Adwalton were bowled out for 143 in reply with Richard Butcher (3-51) the pick of the Ardsley bowlers.
Wakefield St Michael’s recorded an impressive seven-wicket win over East Leeds.
East Leeds were bowled out for 106 with Nazakat Hussain (4-39) and Syed Shah Bukhari (4-33) doing the main damage. Bukhari then completed a fine all-round display by making an unbeaten 52 in St Michaels’ winning reply.
