Sandal frustrated by weather as promotion hopes are all but ended
Sandal are resigned to missing out on promotion to the Bradford Cricket League’s top flight after being frustrated by the wet weather at the weekend.
Their already difficult task of catching second-placed Yeadon was made even harder when the weather intervened in their home game with Birstall.
They had reached 117-5 from 33 overs when play was abandoned, Leighton Shuttleworth made 46 and Sasindu Malshan 40no.
It meant they only collected five points and are now 38 behind Yeadon, who managed to win their fixture.

With only two games remaining Sandal now need a couple of cricketing miracles to deny Yeadon the second spot.
The weather also denied Ossett and Undercliffe the chance of a result after Ossett recovered impressively from an early stumble and were looking to be in a good position.
They were 6-2 before Callum Geldart took control with an unbeaten 75 from 92 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. Saminda Ganwarige added an unbeaten 39 as the pair carried Ossett to 160-3 from 33 overs before the abandonment.
Carlton produced a battling display, but were unable to prevent Woodlands from going top of the Premier Division.
They made 185-9 from their reduced 40 overs after being put in, with Dan Ford making 39, Syed Aqib Shah 37 and Dan White 30.
After a break for rain, Woodlands were set a revised target of 201 from 40 overs and got off to a flyer before wickets brought Carlton back into contention.
The table toppers slipped to 99-6 before Noah Priestley and Scott Richardson transformed the chase with a crucial seventh-wicket partnership and they edged home with two wickets to spare.
Farukh Alam (4-50) and James Glynn (4-59) bowled well for Carlton.
Streethouse had their game at home to Great Preston cut short after their opponents had reached 161-6 from 32 overs with Stuart Ruddick taking 2-45.
There was another abandonment at Buttershaw St Paul’s, but not before Amjid Hussain produced an outstanding bowling performances against Altofts.
Hussain tore through the top and middle order, at one stage helping reduce Altofts to 67-8. He eventually finished with 7-35 from 15 overs, but Liam Webb led a recovery with an unbeaten 35 and Conor Andrews was 23 not out as the innings reached 148-9 from 34 overs before the rain came.
Wrenthorpe were well beaten by Adwalton who clinched promotion with their crushing 209-run verdict.
Adwalton piled up a massive 347-8 total despite Alfie Holden taking 5-102.
Sam Anderson made 25 and Paul Marshall 28 for Wrenthorpe, but there was never a serious challenge to the target as they were all out for 138.
Scholes also sealed promotion despite their game with Wakefield St Michael’s falling victim to the weather.
The second-placed side had struggled to 105-8 from 25 overs when the match was abandoned, having recovered from 43-7, with Atta Ul Mustafa taking 4-37.
East Ardsley were bowled out for just 56 as they lost by eight wickets to Crossbank Methodists.
