Sandal time run chase well to win thriller but promotion dream is over
Sandal’s last lingering outside chance of promotion was extinguished despite them winning a thrilling Division One game at Undercliffe in the Bradford Cricket League.
Although promotion rivals Yeadon only collected four points after losing to Lightcliffe that was enough for them to clinch second place in the final table as they are on 310, with Sandal in third on 286.
Sandal nevertheless are finishing the campaign well as they chased down 259 with only three balls remaining for a thrilling two-wicket success.
Undercliffe posted 258-4, with Faizan Zafar making 89 and Gulsheraz Ahmed 95. Sam Noden did most to restrict them with 3-54.

Sandal timed their response perfectly to get home in the final over as Umar Abbas (74no) led the way and support came from Leighton Shuttleworth (60) and Ashley Mackereth (42).
Ossett went down by 91 runs to Baildon as they found themselves having to chase a huge 332-3 score in their Division One game.
They put up a valiant effort, but were all out for 241 with Callum Geldart hitting 79 from 74 balls, Iqbal Khan contributing 35, Haseen Bashir 34 and Oliver Eldridge 31no.
Carlton will play Premier Division cricket again next year after finishing in ninth place, 41 points clear of the relegation places, but they ended their campaign disappointingly with a 92-run loss against Cleckheaton.
With Ethan Lee hitting an unbeaten 99, Cleck posted a 276-6 total with Naveed Malik taking 3-71.
Malik followed up by making 41 as his side were dismissed for 184. Farukh Alam top scored with 43 while skipper James Glynn made 36no.
Streethouse lost by five wickets to Hunslet Nelson in a Division Two match dominated by the bowlers.
They could only muster 72 runs, with Jacob Tucker and Ismail Patel both making 16.
Streethouse then fought hard in the field, but despite slipping to 60-5 Hunslet reached their target in 19.5 overs.
Altofts lost a close contest with Windhill & Daisy Hill by six runs.
After Windhill made 191, with Shamsullah Dost taking 4-53 and Joshua Morris 3-29, they looked on course to chase the runs down after reaching 118-1, but once Jordan Carter (50), Saif Tahir (34) and Dost (29) were dismissed the rest of the batting fell away and they were all out for 185 with more than 10 overs still remaining.
Adwalton secured the Division Three title with a 17-run win in a low-scoring encounter at Wakefield St Michael’s.
The champions looked in trouble when they were dismissed for 116 as Nazakat Hussain led the home attack with 3-34.
But St Michael’s were then dismissed for 99. Opener Ubaid Zia made 41 but could not prevent Nathan Cant (5-22) and Mitch Thomas (4-19) sealing victory for their side.
East Ardsley continued their strong finish to the season with a five-wicket victory over Brighouse.
