NCEL round-up: Hemsworth MW show never say die spirit with battling draws

Hemsworth MW battled from behind to earn a point from a second successive draw in the NCE Division One.

After narrowly losing their derby game with Kinsley Boys the previous week Wells bounced back with an excellent draw at fourth-paced Selby Town in midweek then shared the spoils again with Route One Rovers.

Against opponents two points and six places above them, Hemsworth fell behind to a 26th minute goal from Route One’s Umar Ali Zahoor.

But despite not being at their best they stuck in the contest and played better after the break, equalising on 66 minutes when Oliver Busfield netted.

Wells then pushed for a winner, but their efforts were in vain and they had to settle for a point again. Adam Walsh took the man of the match for a solid display at the back.

In midweek they had to come from behind twice to draw with a Selby team that has made a strong start to the campaign.

A fifth minute goal by Alex Marsh had Hemsworth behind and they stayed that way until the 72nd minute when Dylan Collington netted.

Selby quickly restored their lead through Khamis Jacob, but the visitors showed their never say die spirit as they kept going to the finish and were rewarded with an Andy Horbury goal in the last minute.

Hemsworth next host Athersley Recreation this Saturday.

They will be unable to call on Harry Shepherd who has left the club to join Wakefield AFC.

Kinsley Boys followed up their derby success with a 2-1 midweek win at home to Immingham Town thanks to goals either side of half-time from Zavier Elkin-Sheppard and Lucas Stubbs.

But they were unable to make it a hat-trick of wins in eight days as they surrendered a two-goal half-time lead at Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Goals from Jack White and Kyle Rose had appeared to put Kinsley on the way to another success when they led 2-0 at the break.

But three goals in eight second half minutes turned the game on its head as Alex Burton (two) and Alister Banks clinched a 3-2 win for the hosts.

Kinsley will be aiming to climb into the top half of the table when they host Club Thorne Colliery this Saturday.

After a promising start to the season Frickley Athletic have now lost their last three NCE Premier Division games.

They were beaten 2-0 at home to Retford FC in midweek and it was the same score at fourth-placed Barton Town on Saturday when they were unable to take their chances and lost out to second half goals from Andrew Norfolk and Danny Earl.

They had Josh Dacre sent-off while Barton keeper Joseph Cracknell was also red carded.

Frickley are back at home this Saturday when up against Handsworth.
